podcasts

I really like the option of using podcasts for Language Arts. Especially for learning poetry. Sometimes it just takes hearing someone reading the poem for it to sink in. This would be helpful not only in the classroom but in at home when the students are studying. The New Yorker:Fiction has a great podcast that has their latest published fiction. I like this for keeping the students up to date on current literature, which is a lot of times over looked for the classics. Their is also the National Poetry Month and many other poetry websites where student can here the poems read and even discussed.

iPhoto in the classroom

I love the idea of being able to use iphoto in the classroom. I have had a Mac since Feb. and I didn't even know about half of the things that you showed us in class on how to enhance and organize photos. This will be a great tool for English/Language arts. I can have groups of students create their own short stories from pictures I have set for them or even from their own pictures. And I love the photo booth. Graphic Novels or comic books are a very popular young adult read right now and I think that the students would have a blast creating their own. I was really apprehensive about this class at first, wondering what I could really take to the classroom from it, but from just the few meetings we've had so far I have come up with a ton of ideas. I am excited about the classes to come!

Technology Trends

Technology moves at such a fast rate that it almost frustrates me. I think that I have gotten the latest version of something when the new version comes out shortly after. It is also amazing how kids now catch on so quickly on how to operate things. My family didn't get a computer until I was 15.  I was instantly addicted and ended up teaching my mom how to use it. Now my younger brother shows me how to use things.
I think that technology is a great resource for the classroom as long as it assists the teacher in teaching. I really don't like the idea of online classes. I think that students need that face to face interaction along with the use of technology. But with all the advancements that have been made I am thankful to be teaching in this age. I think that the use of technology can make lessons and lectures a lot interesting.
